The TCI and TRF partnered with Elsevier to introduce the first official Thai Journal awards. The journals are nominated for awards based on their quality and editorial policy. Their quality is assessed through their performance, using the SNIP metric and looking at the journal's citations received over time. The editorial policy of a journal also pays a central role to the evaluation process as the journals need to be managed to international standards. The journal needs to be published timely, at a set frequency, have a well managed editorial board and a diverse pool of authors contributing to the publication. Even the presentation of the journal through its website will contribute to the evaluation of the journals presentation.

This year's inaugural awards include the 'International Journal Award', selected from the 10 Thai journals accessed globally through Scopus, Elsevier's abstract and citation database, and two 'National Journal Awards' selected from the 72 national Thai research journals. The winners are:

- The South-east Asian Journal of Tropical Medicine and Public Health: International Journal Award

- Journal of Nursing Science: National Journal Award

- Journal of Psychiatric Association of Thailand: National Journal Award

"We are very happy with the synergy and collaboration between Scopus, TCI and TRF that resulted in the first ever TCI-Scopus-TRF Journal Awards," said Professor Narongrit Sombatsompop, Head of Thai-Journal Citation Index Centre. "We would like to congratulate all three winners and hope activities such as these will help boost the quality of Thai journals and improve international visibility and prominence of Thai research."

"We are honored to have the opportunity to support both the TCI and TRF in recognizing Thai journals and their impact on the national and international research landscape," said Youngsuk Chi, Chairman, Elsevier Management Committee, who presented the awards at the conference.

In addition, the TCI database is designed to calculate the journal impact factors automatically. TCI is run by staff from King Mongkut's university of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) and Thammasart University. TCI has been financially supported since its establishment by The Thailand Research Fund (TRF) and The Commission of Higher Education (CHE), Minister of Education of Thailand.
