"Looking to launch a new service model designed to simplify and automatethe teleradiology process for our clients, we evaluated a number of PACS andRIS technology providers. What we found was that only Compressus provides theability to truly integrate into multiple disparate PACS and RIS systemssimultaneously without the need to be tied to one platform," said Mark Gonwa,MD, radiologist and president of E-Rad Solutions. "This flexibility givesE-Rad Solutions a cost-effective solution to provide comprehensiveteleradiology services with seamless, automated connectivity throughout theentire process, from order entry to delivery of the diagnostic report toreferring physicians to automatic posting of the report to the RIS systemwithout a manual fax, email or data re-entry."

The MEDxConnect System acts as a communications hub, enabling variousPACS, HIS, RIS and other data information systems to connect and communicateacross the Enterprise. Utilizing HL7, DICOM, and other standards, the Systemhelps control the flow of images, reports, messages, standard patientdemographics and other important data for diagnosis and treatment planning ofa patient between otherwise independent and disparate systems.

The integrated imaging and data management solution from Compressus isdesigned to support a facility's current and expanded workload and provide aninfrastructure for sustained growth. Building the functionality required forremote connectivity, the system enables users to access diagnostic images andreports in the existing data stores at each facility, increasing the level ofmedical care while reducing the associated costs.

"The Compressus technology gives us the opportunity to maximize theworkflow of the radiologists we engage and provide premium services customizedto our clients' needs," said Stuart Gardner, chief technology officer of E-RadSolutions.

According to Dr. Gonwa, to successfully build a complete and flexiblesystem to efficiently manage the diagnostic and reporting radiologicalservices for their clients from multiple referring organizations, theimplementation had to address the many complexities unique to theteleradiology industry. These include the ability to retrieve and storediagnostic images on DICOM archives, the ability to manage their activitiesvia a patient work list generated from multiple PACS or network systems, andthe ability to route images to participating physicians based upon anycombination of modality, body part, and/or referring physician. Finally, tomaximize productivity and reduce spikes in workload, physicians have theability to access patients work lists throughout the network.

"Because the MEDxConnect System emphasizes enhanced distribution andsharing of digital images and data throughout the diagnostic and reportingprocess, it gives us the flexibili
