Dubai Provides Aid for Cyclone Nargis Victims In Myanmar

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, May 9 His Highness SheikhMohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of theU.A.E. and Ruler of Dubai, announced the emergency provision of 200 temporarystructures to be used as schools and shelter to support the victims of CycloneNargis. Myanmar has accepted Dubai's donation. The official death tollcurrently stands at 22,000, with figures expected to reach the 100,000-mark.

Following the announcement, officials from Dubai Cares loaded 200 largetents into an aircraft to be delivered immediately to Myanmar and madeoperational as temporary schools and shelter within 48 hours.

Her Excellence Reem Al Hashimy, U.A.E. Minister of State and Chairpersonof Dubai Cares Board of Directors, stated, "We are committed to providingemergency humanitarian relief to the people of Myanmar during this time ofgreat need. These temporary structures will provide shelter and schools forchildren and families left homeless by this disaster. Dubai Cares believe thatreaching out to these victims is imperative and will provide the first stepstowards a sense of normalcy and recuperation from this trauma."
