AUSTIN, Texas, July 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Evan S. Melrose MD, MBA, founder and managingdirector of Spindletop Capital, has been named a Health Innovators Fellow by The Aspen Institute. Modeled after the Henry Crown Fellowship, the Health Innovators Fellowship was created in 2015 to strengthen the leadership of innovators across the US
"Dr. Melrose has shown been a healthcare leader though out his entire career. Over twenty years ago he was selected as the first AUL/One America Otis Bowen Scholar (named after the Indiana Governor and former Secretary of Health and Human Services) and also in the same year as the American Medical Association Health Policy Fellow focused on Medicare reform. Those transformational experiences in Washington led Evan to a lifelong career as a successful healthcare investor, family physician, educator, and leader," noted former Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield medical director and Spindletop colleague Dr. Robert McDonald, MD, MBA. "Over the last two decades, whether he was serving as a volunteer in the Astrodome after Hurricane Katrina, promoting physical therapy for kids through teaching them magic, or serving on many private and public healthcare company boards, his authentic servant leadership has served as a model for the dozens of medical and business students that he has mentored over the years."
Tom Kowalski, president of the Texas Healthcare and BioScience Institute notes "Evan has been a business and thought leader in Texas over the last 15 years. He has been involved with or led most every healthcare initiative from the Texas Life Science Forums to the Texas cancer initiatives and Impact Pediatrics at SXSW each year. His leadership was recognized by his Texas peers when he was selected for both the Texas Lyceum and the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation boards and executive committees. We are proud to have now serve the Aspen Institute as a Fellow."
