Disabled Veteran Establishes Non-Profit, AVHRT, to House Injured Veterans

LOS ANGELES, July 2 This week, Disabled American Veteran,Eric V. Trager, along with business associates, Hugh T. Bonner, Theo Caesar,Cyndie Morrison and Durant Management Corporation, announced the developmentof a non-profit organization, "American Veterans Have Rights Too" or "AVHRT".

The purpose of AVHRT is to provide housing, healthcare, financial servicesand resource training to American Veterans with a strong focus on the needs ofdisabled and injured veterans.

As an American Veteran himself, Mr. Trager was compelled to formulate thenon-profit based on his own personal challenges and struggles in seeking aidfrom the United States Government. AVHRT is currently in the process ofobtaining residential property in two locations in Los Angeles to serve aspilot structures for its housing program. Renovation of these identifiedfacilities has already begun to meet California state requirements for housingdisabled persons. In addition, AVHRT intends to provide comprehensive medicalcare and financial counseling, as well as to establish a National ResourceCenter.

American Veterans are living under horrific circumstances. Veterans makeup over half a million persons of the U.S. homeless population. Iraq WarVeterans live daily with the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. 1 in8 returning soldiers suffers from PTSD. Even at the Army's top facility,Walter Reed Army Medical Center, soldiers faced neglect and frustration wherethe living conditions were unacceptable and deplorable. In the midst of theworst surge in mortgage defaults in seven decades, foreclosures in U.S. townswhere soldiers live are increasing at a pace almost four times the nationalaverage, according to data compiled by research firm RealtyTrac Inc. inIrvine, California.
