Digital Union's RT1(TM) Software Creates Telegenetics Network for Region 3 Genetics Collaborative

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 Digital Union announced today theyhave entered into a five-year agreement with members of SERGG (SoutheastRegional Genetics Group) in Region 3 to provide RealTime1(TM) (RT1(TM))software at 15 locations in eight southeastern states, Puerto Rico and the USVirgin Islands. The Region 3 Genetics Collaborative, funded by HRSA since2004, has received additional funding for another five-year period. With thisrenewal, Region 3 will now use RT1(TM) to help them develop and coordinate anetwork of providers of clinical genetic services in order to improve accessto affected individuals and their families in the southeastern United States.

RT1(TM) enables Region 3 members to collaborate in real-time on any healthdata or diagnostic media, while engaging in multipoint video conferencing.Genetics professionals are now better able to share knowledge and problemsolving in the areas of expanded newborn screening and follow-up care fornovel metabolic disorders.

"With RT1(TM) we've begun to shrink the distance between our regionalgenetics centers and improve communication among our members," said Dr. HansAndersson, Co-Principle Investigator of the Region 3 Collaborative HRSA grantand Director of the Hayward Genetics Center at Tulane University MedicalSchool. "Our ultimate goal is to bring all patients in the region under abroad umbrella of care with prompt and consistent access to experts in everyarea of clinical genetics."

Region 3 will use RT1(TM) to establish rural telemedicine genetics clinicsthis year. Future plans include hospital inpatient consultations, supportgroup planning and continuing education for healthcare workers in pertinentareas of genetics. The region, which includes Florida and the Gulf Coast,will also be using RT1 to enhance disaster preparedness planning and responsefor healthcare operations.
