Delmarva Foundation Announces 2007 Trustee Awardees

HANOVER, Md., Oct. 17 Delmarva Foundation is pleased to announce the winners of the Maryland and District of Columbia Hospital Trustee "Driving Quality" Awards for 2007. The award honors a hospital trustee whose leadership has inspired the hospital to continuously achieve the highest levels of patient care by aspiring to deliver services that meet the Institute of Medicine's six aims for improvement -- health care that is safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable.

The winner for Maryland is Edward L. Cahill, who has served on The Johns Hopkins Hospital Board of Directors since January 1999. Mr. Cahill is also a director of several private health care companies and serves as a trustee of Johns Hopkins Medicine, Johns Hopkins Health System and Mercy Health Services. Mr. Cahill holds an A.B. in American Civilization from Williams College and a Master of Public and Private Management degree from Yale University.

The winner for the District of Columbia is Katherine Goodrich, MD, Director of Hospitalist Medicine at George Washington University Hospital since 1999. Dr. Goodman trains residents and medical students at GWUH, directs the Division of Hospital Medicine, and is Chair of the Institutional Review Board. She graduated from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn., and received her medical degree from Louisiana State University Medical Center in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Delmarva Foundation knows that the work of all of the trustees reviewed is meaningful and significant to the hospital. Increasingly, the work of the hospital trustee is seen as significant in enhancing quality improvement efforts within hospitals. We look forward to receiving future application from hospitals describing trustees' continued efforts next year," commented Carmen Tyler Winston, Vice President, Quality Improvement Organization at Delmarva Foundation.
