The American Lung Association recently reported more than 11 million Americans have been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). At the same time, the World Health Organization reports that more than seven million people die prematurely worldwide annually from air pollution. Repeat several times during the day. "Don't lift your rib cage, let the air expand your abdomen for as long as possible and then breathe out slowly," Dr. Bragg writes. This reduces anxiety and stress that can raise blood pressure and has been linked to hypertension and other known health diseases, according to reports from the Harvard University Medical School.
