Dead Skunk Tests Positive For Rabies

STURBRIDGE, Mass., April 4, 2008 Officials atOld Sturbridge Village report that a dead skunk was found in a cow pen onThursday. In accordance with procedures, the OSV farm staff notified localanimal control and board of health officials. The remains were sent to theMassachusetts state lab for testing. Lab results confirmed that the dead skunktested positive for rabies.

At this time, it does not appear that any OSV animals are affected. OSVroutinely vaccinates its animals against rabies. As a precaution, however, OSVwill restrict public contact with its farm animals for 45 days. The villagestaff has notified public health authorities with jurisdiction over thismatter.
