CEDARGROVE, N.J., Jan. 18 CysticFibrosis.com launched its new educational program, KnowCF.com last week for patients and health care professionals to connect and share knowledge. The first program featured CF Center Director, Dr. Joan Germana, being interviewed by Jerry Cahill about the H1N1 virus and cystic fibrosis. This week, author and mother of two children, Lisa Greene, and child psychiatrist, Foster Cline, will share their insight and tips about parenting children with health issues.
KnowCF was born from the convergence of three factors: the passion and willingness of medical professionals to share their expertise in CF, the enormous patient and caregiver community that logs into CysticFibrosis.com, and the thirsty minds within our community who ask tough questions of health care professionals and industry seeking the greatest understanding of CF and its treatment.
KnowCF stands on the shoulders of CysticFibrosis.com, founded in 1996 as a message board for people with CF to communicate with each other despite contagion protocol. This comprehensive site now includes forums, videos, blogs, clinical trial information, polls, articles, news and more. CysticFibrosis.com has over 50,000 visits a month, and more than 10,000 members.
E-patients (patients, family members, and caregivers), industry and health care professionals use CysticFibrosis.com to connect. They learn about clinical trials and new research, compare treatment regimens, and increase compliance and proper use of medical equipment, as well as gain perspective and receive encouragement on how to optimize long-term pulmonary and digestive function.
KnowCF.com plans to feature programs of interest to CF health care professionals and e-patients, ranging from airway clearance techniques and nutrition, to transitioning to adult care and transplants.
