Coventry Health Care Selects ICW as Solutions Provider

WAYNE, Pa., Aug. 12 InterComponentWare Inc. (ICW), aglobal eHealth specialist, announced today that Coventry Health Care Inc. hasselected ICW's Professional Exchange Server (PXS) and Device ConnectivitySolution (DCS) as the interoperability platform and infrastructure solutionfor a home health telemonitoring program.

Coventry's pilot program features the deployment of home health medicaldevices to congestive heart failure (CHF) patients in a defined geographicregion, along with care management services and patient data exchange for thephysicians. This proactive pilot is designed to align member, physician andhealth plan incentives, resulting in improved and timely access to physiciancare. The program's purpose is to produce improved patient outcomes bycentralizing specialized, intense case management for chronically illpatients. Studies have shown that telemonitoring of CHF patients increases thepatient's quality of life and can reduce care delivery costs by avoidingunnecessary emergency room visits and hospitalizations.

ICW's DCS will manage and securely distribute information to and from themedical devices in the patient's home. ICW's PXS serves as theinteroperability platform for Coventry's internal and external networks. ThePXS facilitates the seamless and secure exchange of information betweendisparate systems both inside and outside of the Coventry umbrella ofhealthcare services.

ICW is involved with two cardiac care projects in Europe: The Partnershipfor the Heart, a telemedicine collaborative with two prestigious universityhospitals, and AOK Plus, a health plan-driven telemedicine project for seriousCHF patients in the German state of Saxony.
