Charlotte is one out of approximately 1,600 babies to be born this year in America with the birth defect Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). The couple approached CHERUBS to find support for this CDH Awareness Campaign and CHERUBS agreed to let the couple stream the birth to the charity's Facebook page.

The charity's president, Dawn Torrence Ireland, said that she is proud of this young couple. "This is an incredibly brave and selfless way to raise awareness about this vastly unknown birth defect."

Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia is a birth defect that strikes 2,500 babies worldwide. During gestation, the diaphragm fails to fully form often allowing abdominal organs to reach the chest cavity and restrict lung growth. There is a 50 percent chance of survival with CDH and the cause is still unknown.

Ireland founded CHERUBS in 1995 to help families with children born with CDH. The charity helps over 6,000 CDH families in all 50 states and 61 countries. Their mission is to support the CDH families, facilitate research, and raise awareness for this deadly birth defect.
