WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- A Panel of Board Certified Dermatologists reviewed statements made by The EWG during a recent Cosmetic Bootcamp meeting and concluded that the benefits of sun protection products clearly outweigh the alleged risks as cited by the EWG. Noting that there was no data in humans to substantiate the statements decrying the use of sun protection, the Cosmetic Bootcamp panel pointed out that any change in the way that sunscreens are used should be supported by scientific data and clinical trials.
Kenneth Beer MD, FAAD, one of The Cosmetic Bootcamp directors, said that he uses sun protection for himself and his family, and in his opinion, the statements advising people not to use sunscreens are "irresponsible and are likely to result in premature skin aging and increased rates of skin cancers."
