WASHINGTON, Feb. 29 The office of Congressman Walberg was recently given the Medicare Choices Leadership Award for voting against huge cuts in Medicare that would significantly limit health care choices for seniors. Rep. Walberg received the award from The Coalition for Medicare Choices for his outstanding leadership in the effort to strengthen Medicare Choices.

"The Medicare Advantage (MA) Program has offered numerous seniors in Michigan expanded, affordable solutions for retiree health care," Rep. Walberg said. "MA plans have the ability to offer a dynamic standard of care and encourage a unique, close doctor-patient relationship. I ardently oppose any cuts to MA and believe it deserves to be protected within the Medicare program. Our seniors deserve a system that promotes choice and higher standard of care."

The Coalition for Medicare Choices has members from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and supports high quality health plan choices in Medicare. The Coalition opposes funding cuts that would reduce Medicare Advantage benefits and raise out-of-pocket costs for the 8 million people covered by Medicare Advantage health plans.

"Congressman Walberg's actions were critical for the millions of seniors who rely on Medicare Advantage for enhanced benefits, coordinated care, preventive services, disease management programs and out-of-pocket protection," said Dr. Mary Beth Bolton, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Health Alliance Plan.
