According to Mark Gonwa, MD, radiologist and president of E-Rad Solutions,a teleradiology service provider that uses MEDxConnect system to help imagingpractices optimize workflow, the 2.5 release continues to improve access tocritical patient information as referred to in a recent report in the Journalof Digital Imaging, which cites lack of access to pertinent clinical patientdata may be a critical element that limits the accuracy of the radiologist'sdiagnostic decision-making process.

"The findings support our own experiences, that most radiologists wantmore clinical information when interpreting images and that this informationwould impact their report, but are discouraged by the time it takes to accessthis information. The researchers concluded that based on the fact thathospitals have multiple different systems used to access clinical data, whichpresents challenges through multiple logins and user interfaces, there is acritical need for an integrated application for the automatic identification, selection, retrieval and display of pertinent patient information at the timeof interpretation. Since we implemented MEDxConnect for a hospital group inFlorida, we have easy access to all data critical for us to make accurate andexpedient diagnoses. The system routinely provides reading physician'sclinical documentation, prior reports and images with the new studyautomatically with no manual intervention," added Dr. Gonwa.

The Addendum Enhancement feature builds on MEDxConnect's proven singleVirtual Worklist solution that enables users to automatically pre-fetch alltypes of patient information, including historical and demographic data, priorreports and images, and physicians' notes from disparate information andimaging systems, irrespective of vendor, and distribute it to the appropriatephysicians in real-time. In addition to pre-fetching the user-configurednumber and type of studies and patient information, the System now alsoprovides a list of other data that is available should the physician want itto make their read. Users now have the option to permanently attach this newdata to the original study packet, ensuring that it is available for referringphysicians or future reads.

Other new features include the Order Management Module OM2 module, whichautomatically creates an electronic order in cases where there is no RIS.Needed for other systems in the Enterprise, such as VR, to acknowledge andprocess the exam packet, the OM2 now creates the order in HL7. The Studyforward feature enables users to pass studies to specialists or colleagues forconsultations. Previously, studies could not be forwarded or passed once theywere claimed. Version 2.5 also expanded the ability for groups to customizerouting and worklist rules through general, modality and subspecialtyworklists. The enhanced ability to share studies, assures optimalsub-specialization and enhanced workflow.

"The study featured in the Journal of Digital Imaging continues tovalidate the reason we pioneered the concept of Interoperability SystemSolutions to the market in the first place; that the lack of interoperabilitybetween existing information and imaging systems is one of the most criticalproblems facing the diagnostic and management effectiveness of the healthcareprofession today," said Janine Broda, vice president and general manager forCompressus' Medical Solutions Division. "With the next generation of theMEDxConnect System, we have expanded its capabilities to address all markets, from general imaging to subspecialty, and provide fast, effective, accurate, and affordable solution providing seamless connectivity and interoperability."
