Chrysler LLC Vice Chairman and President Jim Press and His Wife Suwichada Serve as Honorary Co-Chairs of Annual Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Promise Ball

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., May 13 Fund-raising for diseaseresearch got a boost Friday night as Chrysler LLC Vice Chairman and PresidentJim Press and his wife Suwichada presided as honorary chairs for the JuvenileDiabetes Research Foundation's (JDRF) 23rd annual Promise Ball in Dearborn,Mich.

As part of the evening's activities, the Jane Jospey Cobb Promise Awardwas presented to Cynthia and Edsel B. Ford II. The award is given each year toindividuals who have distinguished themselves in advancing the mission of theorganization through their support of research.

"Chrysler is proud to support the annual Juvenile Diabetes ResearchFoundation Promise Ball, and I would like to congratulate the Jane Jospey CobbPromise Award recipients, Cynthia and Edsel B. Ford II, for their dedicationto diabetes research," Press said. "The contributions raised will supportmuch-needed type 1 diabetes research worldwide, to provide help and hope tochildren affected by this disease."

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has been a primary source offunding for research done worldwide to find a cure for juvenile diabetes, andthe organization has raised hundreds of millions of dollars in its 35-yearhistory. Furthermore, this successful Promise Ball event raised approximately$700,000 for the organization in one night.

"Jim Press is one of the most respected leaders in the auto industry andin the Detroit community, and having personally known him for nearly threedecades, we are thrilled that he and his wife Suwichada are serving ashonorary chairs of the Promise Ball," said Jean M. Jennings, editor in chiefof Automobile Magazine and master of ceremonies for the Promise Ball. "Jim'sinfluence is such that, given his participation, we have surpassed our recordattendance for this sold-out fund-raising event."

Local Chrysler LLC dealers also were in attendance to share in thefestivities including Dan and Dee Frost (Southfield Chrysler Jeep); Carl andBarbara Galeana (Van Dyke Dodge); Mark and Deb Snethkamp (Bill Snethkamp);Paul and Theresa Steel (Telegraph Chrysler Jeep) and Tony and Cathy Viviano(Sterling Heights Dodge). The night featured a cocktail hour, live and silentauctions, music by the band Intrigue and food of the Ritz-Carlton.

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International is the leadingcharitable aid organization and advocate of type 1 (juvenile) diabetesresearch worldwide. The mission of the organization is to find a cure fordiabetes and its complications through the support of research. Type 1diabetes is a disease that strikes children suddenly and requires multipleinjections of insulin daily or a continuous infusion of insulin through apump. Insulin, however, is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent itseventual and devastating complications, which may include kidney failure,blindness, heart disease, stroke and amputation.
