Chicago Cubs Derrek Lee, 1st Touch Foundation / Project 3000 'Fighting for a Cause'

CHICAGO, Oct. 30 Recently guest-starring in an episode ofNBC's drama series "ER" on October 18, 2007, Derrek Lee of the Chicago Cubscontinues the fight to raise awareness and funds for research into thecondition of Lebers Congenital Amaurosis (LCA).

Derrek's relentless dedication has helped The Project 3000 Fund raise over$1,000,000 of additional research funds. An eventual cure for the diseasedepends greatly on getting data on patients while Derrek's tireless supporthas had a very significant impact on both fundraising and identifying patientswho have the condition. In September 2006 Derrek's daughter Jada, 3, wasdiagnosed with LCA, a rare genetic disease resulting in loss of vision.

Joining the effort, the Urban Fighting Federation and Kevy BoyProductions, a nonprofit organization, have taken a major step forward bycreating a dynamic "niche" in the sport of "mixed martial arts" (MMA) by ..."Fighting for a Cause."

The event will be held at the Congress Theater in Chicago, IL and willfeature: 5-time World Champion Shonie Carter; top MMA Fighters and teams incombat; Atlantic Records Platinum recording artist "Twista;" comedian Reginald"Bro' Man!" Ballard (Martin Lawrence Show); and BET Comic View's "Ballhead."

Contributions received from the November 9th "Fight 2 the Finish II" eventwill be donated to The Project 3000 Fund. Funds are managed by the Universityof Iowa Foundation.
