LONG BRANCH, N.J., April 21 "Pharma ChemOutsourcing today announced that the September 14-16, 2010 event in New Jersey has been repositioned to focus on the unique outsourcing needs of the emerging pharmaceutical companies that have come to play an increasingly dominant role in today's drug development market," reports Mark Alexay, organizer of the annual event.

"We have all observed how the emerging companies have re-defined the industry over the past 10 years. After many years of Big Pharma dominance we have seen a dramatic shift in the structure of the industry," says Alexay. "Today, there are hundreds of little companies developing novel small molecule therapeutics and they outsource everything. Most of their lead molecules and IP are created on computer screens and all their manufacturing, and everything else, is done by external partners."

The annual Pharma ChemOutsourcing Conference & Exhibition takes place every September in New Jersey. The 2009 event saw 43% growth over the previous year's show, with about 800 total attendees including 100 exhibitors and 125 speakers. "The events is totally unique," stated Alexay. "It's the one opportunity during the year that VP's of Process and Chemical Development from a huge array of emerging pharmaceutical companies can share their API outsourcing views and experiences with their peers. There is a lot of very important information exchanged and business done at the event."

The 2010 conference program has gone a step further this year to meet the needs of the emerging companies by focusing on the entire drug development process. "We realized that it wasn't enough to just talk about the ABC's of outsourcing manufacturing and how to work with suppliers," remarked Alexay. "It was too disjointed. This year we are offering a soup to nuts game plan to foster emerging company drug development expertise. Too often, a company's management is overwhelmed by the twin exigencies of nurturing their IP and raising capital - there really isn't time to develop expertise in moving development programs forward as efficiently as they could be - that's a real challenge for a one product company. They really need help."

"The challenges are everywhere - besides manufacturing, there's the supply chain, a web of suppliers all over the planet, plus FDA regulatory hurdles to clear. Then even if you have a great new IND, partnering with a larger firm to move towards commercialization requires a new skill set and a commercially viable product," stressed Alexay, "is the ultimate goal for emerging companies. Pharma ChemOutsourcing has been rebuilt from the ground up to prepare the growing legion of these little companies with the skills and connections they need to navigate the treacherous waters all the way from scale up to successful out-partnering."
