HERNDON, Va., Nov. 18 Cascades Technologies, Inc. Working closely with prime contractor Science Applications International Corporation (NYSE: SAI) and the Blast Injury Research Program Coordinating Office (PCO) at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command (USAMRMC), CTi will support Phase 3 of the project after having successfully supported the first two phases of the program.

Established in July 2006 by DoD Directive 6025.21E (Medical Research for Prevention, Mitigation, and Treatment of Blast Injuries), the purpose of the program is to coordinate and manage relevant DoD research efforts and programs for the prevention, mitigation, and treatment of blast injuries. Leveraging research and expertise from both within and outside the DoD, the Blast Injury Research Program is focused on filling knowledge gaps in three key topic areas--Injury Prevention, Acute Treatment, and Reset (activities necessary to return injured war fighters to duty readiness or ensuring a healthy return to civilian life).

"The debt we owe our brave war fighters for their sacrifices is immeasurable, therefore, we are deeply honored to do our part to help ensure everything is done to try to minimize the loss of life, improve the quality of life and reduce the long term impact of blast-related traumas faced by our men and women in uniform," said Alfredo Casta, President and CEO of Cascades Technologies, Inc. SAIC senior vice president and business unit general manager Robert McCord added, "Nothing we do is more important than the service we provide to help ensure our military personnel can be successful and safe."

Among some of the Program's early accomplishments include advanced simulation of blast-induced brain injuries to improve the design of personal protective equipment, development of a prototype agent using freeze-dried platelets that improves clotting time and clot strength to facilitate wound-healing, procedures and products that may lengthen amputated fingers and restore function to blast-injured limbs and faces. Dozens of other accomplishments and medical breakthroughs are listed on the Program's new website.

Under Phase 3, CTi will design, develop and maintain databases for collecting, managing and analyzing blast injury research program data from summaries of ongoing clinical research to program budget data and much more. CTi will also manage the content for an informational website to disseminate blast injury research program information to the public, DoD leadership and researchers, to include research publications, upcoming events, and news items. Additionally, CTi will develop and maintain a web-based, password-protected program management system for collecting and sharing information among DoD blast injury researchers.

CTi's innovative Puerto Rico Applications Development And Support center (PRADAS) will develop the bulk of the software working closely with CTi's Headquarters Program Management Office, SAIC, and the staff at the Blast Injury Research PCO. The CTi team will apply CMMI Level 2 best practices in support of this effort.
