HIE and hospital IT pioneer doubles annual revenues, brings on hundreds of new provider organizations
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Carefx Corporation today announced 200 percent revenue growth in 2008. Carefx has increased its penetration of the hospital, health system, integrated delivery network (IDN) and health information exchange (HIE) markets with an 80 percent increase in client bookings and the addition of some 200 hospitals to its already impressive roster.
"We see our strong growth as continued validation that organizations can no longer settle for proprietary or monolithic systems that do not support clinical workflow or cognitive tasks and force clinicians to sift through enormous bundles of data from disparate sources," says Andrew Hurd, Chairman and CEO of Carefx. "We built the Fusionfx solution suite to address the information gaps that occur between disparate systems in order to simplify clinical and business workflow, and to ultimately improve the quality of care delivery."
Hurd's comments are echoed in a January 9, 2009 National Research Council (NRC) report, which offers a critical evaluation of current healthcare IT solutions' performance in the areas of data sharing, integration and management. NRC's Computational Technology for Effective Health Care: Immediate Steps and Strategic Directions advises organizations to "develop the necessary data infrastructure for healthcare improvement by aggregating data concerning people, processes and outcomes from all sources" and to "organize incentives, roles, workflow, processes and supporting infrastructure to encourage, support and respond to opportunities for clinical performance gains."
"The company's Fusionfx solution suite parallels the NRC's recommendations by aggregating data from multiple sources and presenting it to clinicians in a way that fits their role, workflow and location," says Eric Leader, Carefx's Vice President of Technology Architecture. "While its tools support and respond to opportunities for gains in clinical performance, Fusionfx uses clinical data to create specific views and interpretations that meet clinicians' needs."
Carefx extended its market reach into 200 facilities throughout the U.S. market. The company also enhanced its global presence with contracts at Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals and Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom as well as Canada-based Trillium Health Center and the Calgary Health Region.
Carefx further refined its Fusionfx solution suite in 2008, allowing clinicians federated access to a patient's information from databases in disconnected IT systems, departments, facilities and communities, and delivering that information in an actionable, unified view. The Fusionfx solution suite has been broadened with a series of strategic applications related to identity & access management, financial management, clinical care, collaboration, and consumer health records and behavior.
Carefx's commitment to securing the input of leading healthcare CIOs and CMIOs will be showcased in the white paper, "The Changing Role of the Healthcare CIO: A View From Experts," scheduled for release in early 2009, as well as a follow-up survey and white paper featuring interviews with healthcare CIOs and CMIOs on their emerging roles, responsibilities and priorities.
