Care Improvement Plus Partners with Atlanta Regional Commission to Provide Preventive Services to Area Seniors

ATLANTA, Sept. 22 Care Improvement Plus, Georgia's largeststate-wide Medicare Special Needs Plan for beneficiaries with chronic healthconditions, today announced that it will be collaborating with the AtlantaRegional Commission's Sickness Prevention Achieved through RegionalCollaboration (SPARC) coalition to organize 13 health fairs this fall acrossDeKalb and Fulton counties to improve community-wide delivery of diseaseprevention services among older adults.

"Over 60 percent of older adults in our community do not get the routinecare they need to maintain their health," said Jennie Deese, communityoutreach director for Care Improvement Plus. "The mission of the SPARC programis well-aligned with that of Care Improvement Plus -- to improve the health ofarea seniors by providing access to valuable preventive services. We arehonored to be a part of this program."

Originally launched as a pilot program in the Atlanta region in 2006,SPARC, which is administered by the Atlanta Regional Commission Area Agency onAging, encourages the use of community resources and locations to improveaccess to routine preventive care.

The coalition is finalizing plans to host 13 senior health fairs betweenOctober and December at various locations throughout DeKalb and Fultoncounties. Fairs will include health related activities such as flu andpneumonia vaccinations, bone density screenings, blood pressure and bloodglucose testing, podiatry assessments, medication reviews, and nutritionalinformation including free produce selections.
