CSC Part of Team Selected to Participate in Trial Implementation of Nationwide Health Information Network

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Oct. 15 Computer SciencesCorporation (NYSE: CSC) announced today that it is part of a team led by theNew York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) that has been awarded a contract toparticipate in the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) trialimplementation for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). CSCestimates the value of the contract, which has a one-year base period and twoone-year options, to be $3.5 million if all options are exercised.

Under the terms of the agreement, CSC will provide program management andtechnical integration for the NYeC to facilitate a state, regional andnon-geographic health information exchange consortium. This consortium willbecome a component of the NHIN's "network of networks" to share individualhealth records and clinical data electronically and securely.

The NYeC team will work with two regional health information exchangeorganizations in the New York City metropolitan area -- New York ClinicalInformation Exchange and Long Island Patient Information Exchange -- todevelop electronic patient summary records with two of their participatingproviders, Visiting Nurse Service of New York and North Shore UniversityHospital.

The NYeC team will work with other teams from across the country tocooperatively develop specifications for, and trial implementations of, theNHIN and help ensure compatibility among all organizations.

On April 27, 2004, President Bush issued an executive order announcing hiscommitment to use health information technology (IT) to reduce medical errors,increase efficiency and provide better information for consumers andphysicians. In particular, the President called for the widespread adoption ofelectronic health records and for health information to follow consumers.
