CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Aug. 3 CRICO/RMF has been awarded the highest level of accreditation, "Accreditation with Commendation," as a provider of Continuing Medical Education (CME) for physicians. This six-year accreditation is the result of an extensive (re)survey by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) in which CRICO/RMF demonstrated compliance in all 22 of its criteria.

Of the 2,200 (704 national and 1504 state) accredited CME providers, "fewer than 10% of all accredited providers achieve this designation," said Luke Sato, MD, Chief Medical Officer for CRICO/RMF. "Earning this status is the culmination of an extensive organizational self-study report, evidence of performance-in-practice, and an accreditation interview conducted by the ACCME reviewers."

"Reaching such a goal," Dr. Sato continued, "exemplifies the quality education we deliver and our commitment to meeting our CME and corporate missions of supporting our member physicians and institutions as they strive to deliver the safest health care in the world."

This accreditation designation is the culmination of an intensive, 18-month reaccreditation process. The ACCME congratulated CRICO/RMF on this achievement, and "commends your organization for not only meeting the ACCME's accreditation requirements but for demonstrating that yours is a learning organization and a change agent for the physicians you serve."

"Through clear identification of gaps in professional practice," says Jane Gagne, Manager for Continuing Medical Education at CRICO/RMF, "we deliver educational programs that not only meet the ACCME standards, but establish CRICO/RMF as a thought leader in the realm of patient safety."

The ACCME rigorously evaluates the overall continuing medical education programs of institutions according to standards adopted by all seven sponsoring organizations of the ACCME. These are: the American Board of Medical Specialties; the American Hospital Association; the American Medical Association; the Association for Hospital Medical Education; the Association of American Medical Colleges; the Council of Medical Specialty Societies; and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the U.S., Inc.

CRICO/RMF is the patient safety and medical malpractice insurance company owned by and serving the Harvard medical community since 1976.
