Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation Wins Three National Awards for Communications Excellence from Council on Foundations

DETROIT, May 1 The Blue Cross Blue Shield of MichiganFoundation has won three national awards in the 2007 Wilmer Shields RichAwards Program. The awards, given by the Council on Foundations and theCommunications Network, recognize outstanding communications efforts thatincrease public awareness of foundations and corporate giving programs. Theawards will be presented at the 59th Annual Conference of the Council onFoundations on Monday, May 5, 2008 in Maryland.

The foundation has won 32 Wilmer Shields Rich Awards since 1995 (eightgold, 14 silver, nine bronze and one runner-up), including this year's awards:

The Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan Foundation is dedicated toimproving the health of Michigan residents by supporting health care researchand innovative health programs. The foundation's grant programs are conductedin Michigan by Michigan-based researchers and nonprofit community health careorganizations.

Over the past 25 years, the BCBSM Foundation has contributed approximately$20 million in grants for research and $5 million for community healthprograms. This funding has resulted in enhancements to quality, patient safetyand access to care for the people of Michigan. The foundation also supportsefforts to control the rising costs of health care through research,demonstration and evaluation projects.

The BCBSM Foundation is the philanthropic affiliate of Blue Cross BlueShield of Michigan.
