SOUTHFIELD, Mich., Dec. 9 Blue Care Network has announced that Jeanne Carlson, president and CEO of Blue Care Network, will be retiring at the end of February after a 33-year career that includes executive positions at both Blue Care Network and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

The company will announce a new BCN leader prior to Carlson's departure next year.

BCN achieved several milestones under Carlson's leadership. Carlson was instrumental in enabling BCN to expand its product offerings to include new commercial and government business products, which have brought new members to the health plan. BCN successfully entered the senior market with its BCN Advantage products. BCN also introduced a Health Reimbursement Account product, recognizing the importance of having newer and more flexible consumer driven product designs. Over the last several years, BCN has continued to successfully deliver its Healthy Blue Living product as a leader in wellness design in our state.
The company integrated the M-CARE membership and operations under Carlson's tenure, and is awaiting regulatory approval to similarly integrate Physicians Health Plan of Mid-Michigan, which it expects will provide value by spreading its administrative costs across a larger membership base. BCN also has been successful in significantly reducing its administrative costs in 2009.
Immediately prior to becoming CEO in 2006, Carlson served as BCN's chief operating officer. She also held key roles at BCBSM during her 33-year career, including vice president for HIPAA Compliance and Effectiveness, where she was responsible for building the foundation for the Blues' HIPAA compliant operations and procedures. She also served as vice president of the BCBSM's General Motors account, PPO and Ancillary Services, Provider Relations, the Ford/Auto Alliance/Rough Steel account and Provider Contracting.
