RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif., May 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Betty Ford Center professionals have been chosen to serve as the panel of experts providing information in the Substance Abuse Community on the WebMD website.

The non-profit Betty Ford Center is located in Rancho Mirage, CA as a licensed addiction hospital and offers highly effective alcohol and other drug dependency treatment services, including programs of education and research, to help women, men and families begin the process of recovery.

As of February 2011, WebMD's network of sites reach an average of 86.4 million visitors per month and is considered the country's leading health portal.

John Schwarzlose, Betty Ford Center CEO, is a member of the expert panel that also includes four physicians who are Board Certified in Addiction Medicine and an Addiction Psychiatrist.

"This is a natural fit for the Betty Ford Center," said Schwarzlose.  "For over a quarter of a century, the Center has been acknowledged as a leader in the field of alcoholism and addiction.  We look forward to sharing our expertise in a forum that reaches around the world."

The BFC alcohol and addiction treatment experts will provide responses to questions posted by readers, serve as guest bloggers and also contribute their expertise in other WebMD communities as appropriate.  For example, a Substance Abuse Community question related to eating disorders and addiction may grow into an article by one of the Center's experts for WebMD's Eating Disorders Community.  The experts may also see a trend developing among readers and introduce a topic to build upon over a period of time.

The WebMD mission is to provide readers with objective, reliable and timely health information.  To that end, the site offers expertise in medicine, journalism, health communication and content creation.  Their Independent Medical Review Board continuously reviews the site for both accuracy and timeliness.
