BILLERICA, Mass., Dec. 3 The Belmont(R) Rapid Infuser, amedical device used extensively in Combat Support Hospitals to treat woundedsoldiers, civilians, and enemy combatants in Iraq, is credited with helping tosave the life of an Omaha, NE Police Officer.

The officer was shot three times during a traffic stop. One of the bulletshit him in the abdomen and traveled down his leg rupturing a major artery.

"Injury to this area is often lethal... when he arrived here he obviouslyhad an abdomen completely full of blood," stated Dr. Robert Fitzgibbons, Jr.(Creighton University Medical Center). "He still had brain activity... but hehad no pulse. He had no blood pressure."

A Belmont infuser is what doctors believe made this medical miraclepossible. Dr. Nahel Saied, also of Creighton University Medical Center, saidthat "the Belmont Infuser made it possible for the officer to recover duringthe critical phase, and now is moving to the next phase of treatment."

The Belmont(R) Rapid Infuser, initially designed for use by the militaryfor cases requiring massive blood transfusion, is now used in high blood losssurgical procedures and severe trauma cases in major medical centersthroughout the country.

George Herzlinger, President and founder of Belmont, commented, "Thehard-working people at our company are proud that our rapid infuser has helpedsurgeons and physicians save lives in critical situations such as is reportedhere."
