BOSTON, Oct. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands of people are wearing bald caps on Friday, October 22 in nationwide cancer fund-raiser Be Bold, Be Bald! Participants are going about their daily activities while honoring cancer patients and raising much-needed funds for research. Most participants have a very personal experience with this dreaded disease and are wearing the bald cap to show their support for a family member, friend or co-worker. Each participant raises money by getting sponsored for their bold move.

Not everyone has the time or physical ability to participate in the typical run, walk or bike-a-thon, but anyone can wear a bald cap. It doesn't require physical training or a change in daily routine. And, the bold move (a vanity challenge as opposed to a physical challenge) causes people to stop, think and, hopefully, start a conversation. When founder Jeff Freedman's business partner in Boston ad agency Small Army, Mike Connell, died of cancer in November 2007, he and his team wanted to honor his memory with a bold and different fundraiser. "Be Bold, Be Bald!" is their tribute to Connell's legacy and the valiant fight he put up against this horrible disease. Net proceeds from the event will benefit The Jimmy Fund, The Lance Armstrong Foundation, The Prostate Cancer Foundation, Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and International Myeloma Foundation.
