Increased road-side blasts and the use of Improvised Explosive Devices(IED) combined with body armor that saves lives, but cannot completely protectthe head or eyes, has made traumatic brain and eye injuries among the mostcommon problems for soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines serving in Iraq andAfghanistan.
In addition to traumatic brain and eye injuries, the symposium will alsocover laser and refractive surgery, regenerating optic nerves and retinas,reconstructive surgery, eye protection, advanced technology applications, andwound healing.
