Danya Relaunches Site With Expanded Resources for Individuals With Autism and Their Families

SILVER SPRING, Md., March 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Danya International, Inc. (Danya), a health and education communications, research, and technology firm, has acquired AutismOnline.org, a trusted resource for individuals with autism and their families.

AutismOnline links parents and caregivers to support, research, and products in a variety of languages concerning the complex developmental disorder. Approximately 1 in 150 children has a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder, which affects the person's ability to communicate and interact with others.

"When a parent has a newly diagnosed child, sifting through hundreds of Web sites can be confusing and time consuming," said Jeff Hoffman, Ph.D., President and CEO of Danya. "It is our hope that in relaunching AutismOnline and continually updating its resources parents will be better served and, in return, will be better able to serve their loved ones with autism."

AutismOnline.org was founded by Ayda Sanver, a parent of a child with autism, and the current Director of the Community Development for CSAAC, a nonprofit agency serving children and adults with autism in Maryland. She approached Danya in 2007 to take over AutismOnline when the site's activity grew beyond what the family and its nonprofit organization could manage.

"We approached Danya because we knew of the company's outstanding reputation for developing educational products that support the emotional and behavioral health of individuals with autism and their families," said Ms. Sanver. "We wanted a socially conscious company to take over the site to ensure that it would have a good home and a successful future."

Danya recently unveiled AutismVision: Creating Classroom Connections, a series of video presentations and school curriculums to help educate the classmates of children and teens with autism and Asperger syndrome, and to foster social inclusion. Danya also produced a free, printed guide series called Life Journey Through Autism with the Organization for Autism Research (OAR) to educate parents and teachers about autism, autism research, assessment tools, and more.

Danya developed these resources with input from leading autism organizations, including the national office of the Autism Society of America (ASA), OAR, Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders (CASD) at Children's National Medical Center, and Community Services for Autistic Adults and Children (CSAAC).

"There is no cure for people with autism," says Dr. Hoffman. "But, as our knowledge and understanding of the disorder increases, Danya will continue to develop new approaches for meeting the needs of this special community."

Danya plans to continually update the AutismOnline's content and products. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the products featured on the site will be donated to autism organizations worldwide for research and support.
