United Way Grant Allows Case Management and Parent Education Expansion for CRADLES Program
AUSTIN, Texas, May 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- CRADLES, a program of Austin Recovery, the largest and most affordable drug and alcohol treatment center in Texas, has just been awarded a $60,000 one-year early childhood education Community Investment Grant on behalf of United Way Capital Area. The funding, which will commence July 1, 2011 will cover the expansion of services CRADLES provides to Austin Recovery's Family House clients and children in Travis County who are at risk for abandonment. The grant will be utilized to add an additional full-time Case Manager and another part-time Parent Educator for the program, allowing Family House to serve a total of 20 adult participants and 40 children ages 0-6.
The CRADLES Program serves women in Travis County who are either pregnant or have a child under the age of six that are considered high risk for abandonment or separation from their mothers. Families in the CRADLES Program are assigned a Case Manager who works with them to create a plan to address the needs of the children and the family. CRADLES services include: intensive in-home case management, in-home parenting coaching and child development education, child development assessment, short-term childcare stipends, limited transportation assistance and permanency planning. "Our target population is mothers with substance abuse issues," said Trish Rivera, CRADLES Program Manager. "Partnering with Austin Recovery, we now treat the substance abuse while providing consistent and ongoing support for mothers focused on family needs, parenting skills and the creation or restoration of the family system."
Austin Recovery's Family House program provides a minimum of 90-days of drug and alcohol rehab to mothers of young children. "Family House allows mothers to bring up to two children under the age of six with them into treatment," said Austin Recovery CEO Jonathan Ross. "Treating the moms and reuniting them with their families while in treatment allows us to work with them on parenting skills and the everyday stressors that make parenthood challenging." He continued, "The CRADLES Program provides our clients seamless care and services."
At Austin Recovery's Family House, clients receive weekly intensive on-site case management from CRADLES Case Managers, as well as continued intensive in-home case management post discharge from residential treatment. Parent Educators provide evidence-based parenting education for clients using the Nurturing Parenting curriculum.
