According to the National Survey on Chinese Residents' Nutrition and Health, the urban Chinese person lives much better than in the past -- the greatest improvements have taken place over the last ten years as the incidence of disease has fallen. On the other hand, rates for hypertension (high blood pressure), diabetes and obesity have been rising significantly. 160 million people in China have high blood pressure (high blood pressure patients). Hypertension is rising fast in rural areas, so fast, in fact, that there is no difference in the rural and urban rates. 2.6% of the adult population is diabetic -- about 20 million people.
