Cats have a habit of rubbing, scratching, and clawing at their eyes, making them constantly at risk of an eye infection. Proper eye care is not only important for your kitty's sight, but for his or her overall health. Assisi Animal Health gives 3 ways to make sure you are doing everything you can to create a comfortable and healthy life for your cat, through providing the best eye care.

1.    Routine examinations. Under good lighting, always examine your kitty's eyes to make sure there are no scratches or particles stuck in the eye. Healthy eyes are glossy and clear, so any cloudiness or dryness likely signals a problem. As cats are extremely prone to eye infections, checking for symptoms on a regular basis is of the utmost importance.

2.    Keep an "eye" out. Corneal abrasions can be a result of hair or fur rubbing against the cat's eye. In extreme cases, this can cause your pet to lose vision completely. However, it typically causes a state of hurting and discomfort that can be easily managed. To avoid this, trim the hair around your kitty's eyes in a line parallel to the eyelid to be sure that hair is not becoming overgrown and irritating the eye itself.

3.    Red flags. There are a handful of things to look out for when looking into your cat's eyes. If you notice any of the following, it is important to contact your veterinarian immediately, as it could point to an infection: discharge, tear-stained fur, red or white eyelid linings, cloudiness, redness, or swelling.

Assisi Animal Health's clinical solutions complete the Circle of Care® — the collaboration of veterinarians and owners in animal health and healing. Our company helps veterinary professionals and owners improve the quality of life for companion animals using the Assisi Loop, the non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical healing device that is based on the same FDA-cleared technology used on humans. The device uses low-level pulses of electromagnetic energy to reduce pain and swelling, and to enhance recovery.
