The only thing
1. Keep him or her comfortable. Pets need plenty of rest in order to encourage fast and easy healing. It may also be necessary to keep them confined for a period of time to prevent popping stitches or over-exertion. Create a soft, warm area for your dog to rest in that is small enough to prevent activity but large enough for him or her to lay comfortably.
2. Follow all veterinary instruction. Your veterinarian knows the best practices on how to take care of your dog after surgery. Listen carefully to all instructions regarding diet, medication, and proper wound care. If these instructions are not automatically provided to you upon release, or you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask the veterinary staff for clarification as soon as uncertainties arise.
3. Encourage hydration. Your pet is going to need a significant amount of post-operative rehydration. Provide your pup with easy access to water in a container that will allow him or her to reach and drink it without complication.
There are several other ways to promote healing in animals after surgery, like alternative therapies such as the Assisi Loop® and more. Consult with your veterinarian to discuss which treatment and healing promotion tactics are right for your unique pet.
Assisi Animal Health's clinical solutions complete the Circle of Care® — the collaboration of veterinarians and owners in animal health and healing.
