Despite how agile they typically are, cats are still prone to injuries. Learning about types of potential traumas your cat may face is helpful in both prevention and treatment. Assisi Animal Health lists four most common injuries your feline may face:

1. Torn nails. An unclipped nail catches easily on various surfaces, which ultimately causes the nail to break. Although this may be painful, it's not too serious of a situation. Upon injury, stop the bleeding right away and bandage it up to keep it clean and allow proper healing.

2. Insect bites. Bites and stings typically aren't life-threatening. However, they can certainly cause discomfort. Remove the stinger (if applicable) and bring down swelling with an ice pack. Immediately bring your cat to the vet if you notice any signs of an allergic reaction.

3. Puncture wounds. Animal fights can result in bite or puncture wounds, which must be thoroughly cleaned out and disinfected in order to prevent infection and promote healing. Because bites can lead to abscesses, monitor the wound and consult a veterinarian should you have any concerns.

4. Forelimb damage. Referred to as a brachial plexus avulsion, foreleg injuries can occur from a hard fall or road accident. These injuries tend to be more serious, so beware of signs of limping, muscle weakness, and stiff movement.

Fortunately, there are many ways to treat these injuries, including medication or holistic therapies like the Assisi Loop®. Always consult with your vet to see which treatment option is best for your pet.
