Eli Lilly and Company, in partnership with the National Coalition forCancer Survivorship (NCCS), presents Oncology on Canvas as a way to paytribute to the cancer journeys of all those affected by cancer. The programwas launched in 2004 and has resulted in two competitions, nearly 2,500 piecesof art, and more than 600 exhibitions around the world. Oncology on Canvas isaccepting entries from the U.S. and Puerto Rico for its third competitionuntil July 15, 2008.

"What better way to honor those affected by cancer than by showcasing aninspiring collection of art at the world's premier oncology meeting,coinciding with National Cancer Survivors Day," said Ellen Stovall, presidentand chief executive officer of NCCS. ASCO attracts more than 30,000 oncologyprofessionals around the world. Created in 1987, National Cancer Survivors Daywas created to honor all those that have been affected by cancer.
"NCCS has always maintained that a person is a survivor from the momentthey are diagnosed with cancer," added Ms. Stovall. "Oncology on Canvas putssurvivorship in the spotlight, highlighting what it means to live with cancer,and providing hope and inspiration to all."
2008 Competition Still Accepting Entries
The 2008 competition invites U.S. and Puerto Rico residents who have beendiagnosed with cancer, their health care providers, family members, friendsand caregivers, to express visually, and in narrative, the many emotions andexperiences that define the cancer journey.
"While ASCO spotlights the achievements of cancer researchers and leadersat the forefront of medical science, Oncology on Canvas reminds us of thepower of the human spirit to move forward and heal," said Richard Gaynor,M.D., vice president, cancer research and global oncology platform leader forLilly.
All entries for the 2008 competition must be received by the Art Directorno later than July 15, 2008. Entries must be original works of art, presentedin one of six different mediums: oil; watercolor; acrylic; photography;pastel; and mixed media (any other type of one-dimensional art). Submissionsmust be at least 12" x 12" and no larger than 17" x 26". There are threeparticipant categories in the competition: person diagnosed with cancer;health care professional (e.g., doctor, nurse, pharmacist, lab technician,etc.); and family member, friend or caregiver.
