The Walk To Cure Diabetes is the fastest growing fund raising event in thehistory of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, (JDRF). In 2007, thenational JDRF raised nearly $100 million with the Walk, which spans more than200 chapters throughout the United States and six countries. The CentralFlorida chapter raised more than $815,000 in 2007 with its two premier walksin Central Florida. The first walk is scheduled for March 1 at the Universityof Central Florida; the second is scheduled for March 15 at Lori Wilson Parkin Brevard County.

During the Amscot open house event, children's entertainment will beprovided. Radio station WRUM-FM, Rumba 100.3, will broadcast live fromAmscot's parking lot and give away prizes. Free refreshments also will beprovided.
At the Amscot grand opening, the Child Protection Education of America,Inc. (CPEA), a national nonprofit organization for missing children based inTampa, will also be available on site to provide free fingerprinting forchildren through their "ID ME NOW" program.
The program produces a state-of-the-art, specially designed card forparents to keep. The card contains a set of the child's digital fingerprints,a black and white photo, a dental chart, and instructions on how to do asimple DNA collection. Safety brochures are provided with the fingerprintcard, as well as an envelope containing further information on how to completethe child safety kit.
This information can assist parents and law enforcement officers involvedwith a missing child case. An interactive child safety CD-ROM can also bepurchased for $5 at the event with profits going to the CPEA for creating theCD-ROM.
