CHICAGO, Aug. 19 America's Second Harvest -- The Nation's Food Bank Network is prepared to provide food, water, grocery products and cleaning supplies to member food banks in Florida that serve people affected by Tropical Storm Fay.

The network stages supplies throughout the country so that they will be readily accessible and quickly moved in the event of a disaster.

"As Tropical Storm Fay headed to landfall, America's Second Harvest began readying supplies typically associated with the initial stage of disaster relief, such as 'heater meals,' bottles of water and hand held snacks, to provide basic assistance until the full effects of the storm can be assessed by local officials," said Vicki Escarra, president and CEO. "These items are needed when there is no access to power or water in homes. As the recovery process begins, we will continue to help feed those affected by the storm."

America's Second Harvest, through their network of food banks, recently distributed thousands of pounds of food, water, groceries and cleaning supplies to communities throughout Texas and Louisiana in the wake of Hurricane Dolly and Tropical Storm Edouard.

During the past year, America's Second Harvest developed extensive disaster relief capabilities. The have trained national disaster teams to support our food banks and worked with corporate donors supporting disaster relief operations

Dunkin' Brands Community Foundation, Target Corporation and Kellogg's Corporate Citizenship Fund have been important sponsors of disaster preparedness initiatives in recent years.
