American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) President's Press Conference, Nov. 1, 2008 in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 14 AASLD President Arthur J.McCullough, MD, will host a press conference on the first full day ofpresentations at the Liver Meeting(R), the annual meeting of the AmericanAssociation for the Study of Liver Diseases.

Dr. McCullough will highlight individual studies and themes from thealmost 1600 abstracts to be presented at this year's meeting from the leadingresearchers in the field. Topics will include pilot studies and clinicaltrials for hepatitis and the latest findings in fatty liver disease, as wellas important research in the areas of hepatocellular carcinoma andcontroversial issues in liver transplantation. He has selected to review 20abstracts in advance of their actual presentation in scientific sessions forthe benefit of the media.

Dr. McCullough is a professor of medicine at the Cleveland Clinic LernerCollege of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and chairman of theDepartment of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the Cleveland Clinic inCleveland, Ohio. He is also the vice chair for Research for the Division ofMedicine. His research interests include the study of non-alcoholicsteatohepatitis and alcoholic steatohepatitis. The major research interests ofhis laboratory include the study of the normal response of protein and energymetabolism during feeding and how the presence of cirrhosis affects thatresponse. Other areas of research include the further delineation of thecauses of abnormal energy and protein metabolism in cirrhosis, whileevaluating new nutritional and pharmacologic strategies in vivo to correctmalnutrition in chronic liver disease.

This year's Liver Meeting(R), held in SanFrancisco, California, October 31 - November 4, will bring together more than7,000 researchers from 55 countries.
