Allscripts Live with Google Health Integration for Real-Time Information Sharing Between Physicians and Patients

CHICAGO, Sept. 18 Allscripts, the leadingprovider of clinical software, connectivity and information solutions thatphysicians use to improve healthcare, announced that its AllscriptsePrescribe(TM) integration is live with Google Health. The web-basedelectronic prescribing solution from Allscripts has been offered free ofcharge to every physician in America via the National ePrescribing PatientSafety Initiative(TM) (NEPSI(TM)), of which Allscripts is a nationalco-sponsor. The integration between Allscripts and Google products provides physicianswith a new means of sharing their patient's medication history securely overthe Internet with their patients via Google Health.

Google Health is a new product that allows users to store, organize, andmanage their medical records securely online. The product is free to patientsand partners who integrate and can be found at http://www.google.com/health.The relationship with Allscripts allows patients to securely transfer theirmedication history, allergies, and conditions from their physician'sAllscripts ePrescribe application to the patient's Google Health account.

If a patient has a physician who uses the Allscripts ePrescribe solution,they can ask for a secure personal identification number (PIN) from theirphysician to establish a sharing link between the physician's AllscriptsePrescribe solution and Google Health. Once the sharing relationship isestablished, the patient is able to securely import their medication history,allergies and conditions into their Google Health Account.

As further incentive, passage of the recent Medicare Improvements forPatients and Providers Act of 2008 permits physicians to earn revenue fortheir practices with a two percent bonus paid on all Medicare prescriptionsdelivered electronically beginning January 1, 2009. The new law alsopenalizes physicians who do not use the technology, with Medicare pay cuts ofup to 2 percent beginning in 2013. The bill allows for some exceptions to therule.
