Press Conference, Meeting - MRSA Survivors Network Announces Chapter Opening in Portland, OR.
Ms. Regina Ibrahim has been appointed the Director of the Oregon/Washington State Chapter for MRSA Survivors Network. A press conference and educational public meeting will be held, Monday, November 14, 2016 at 10:00am at Self Enhancement Inc. 3920 North Kerby Ave. Portland, OR.
Ms. Ibrahim's daughter, Nadja was 21 years old when she was infected in a local hospital with MRSA during brain surgery and she will share her daughter's story along with her struggle on her ongoing medical journey to help her daughter. The public is encouraged to attend along with survivors of infections, their families and those from the medical community.
Ms. Teresa Raiford Mazique, an advocate with 'Portland Don't Shoot/Black Lives Matters' will talk about the treatment of minorities in the healthcare system and patient rights.
"The ongoing MRSA epidemic should be a top political priority and so many lives have been lost to this preventable disease," states Jeanine Thomas, founder and president of MRSA Survivors Network. Ms. Thomas will be speaking on how to help prevent infections in healthcare facilities and in the community.
MRSA Survivors Network is the first patient/consumer nonprofit to raise the alarm about infections in the U.S. and was founded in 2003. MRSA Survivors Network initiated and helped to pass ground breaking legislation for MRSA screening and reporting in Illinois and other states have followed.
