AMERIGROUP Foundation Supports the School for Children with Hidden Intelligence

EDISON, N.J., Oct. 13, 2008 The AMERIGROUP Foundationtoday announced a contribution in support of the School for Children withHidden Intelligence (SCHI) to enhance the organization's vocational trainingprogram.

SCHI is a state-approved, private school that specifically educatesmultiply handicapped, underprivileged children with special needs fromthroughout New Jersey. Its aim is to try and alleviate the suffering of themost vulnerable members of the community. SCHI offers educational andtherapeutic services by certified professional staff to children who havedisabilities as varied as autism, Down syndrome and cerebral palsy. It placesgreat emphasis on maintaining a low teacher-to-pupil ratio, along withindividualized educational programs, designed to fit each child's specificneeds.

The AMERIGROUP Foundation's $5,000 contribution will help to enhanceSCHI's transition program whose goal is to continue to provide special needsadolescents with the necessary skills to be productive citizens within theircommunities. With that focus, SCHI has developed and continues to improve acollaborative model involving teachers, therapists, parents, family membersand community business whereby students obtain the indispensable skills andemotional support necessary for them to experience lasting vocational andpersonal success in their adult lives.
