NEW YORK, Jan. 15 The American Jewish Committee praised the Israel Defense Forces contribution to relief efforts in Haiti, following the devastating earthquake which, according to current estimates, has left up to 50,000 dead and 3 million homeless. The IDF's field hospital includes 40 doctors, 25 nurses, paramedics, a pharmacy, a children's ward, a radiology department, an intensive care unit, an emergency room, two operating rooms, a surgical department, an internal department and a maternity ward.

"We are proud of Israel's military, just as we are proud of the United States military for sending over 5,000 soldiers and marines to Haiti," said AJC Executive Director David Harris. "This is a powerful reminder that the armed forces of democratic countries have a noble tradition of providing humanitarian aid to those who are hungry, wounded and desperate."
AJC has partnered with IsraAID, Israel's leading relief organization, to send medical personnel and supplies to Haiti. AJC's appeal raised over $70,000 within 24 hours of being launched. Donations can be made at AJCs Haiti fund page.
