The CME (continuing medical education) offerings include 25 Postgraduate Courses, 7 Surgical Tutorials, 8 Plenary Sessions, 8 Panel Sessions and 5 General Sessions. "The near-record number of over 870 abstract submissions offers an unprecedented amount of data and experiences to learn from. Some interesting and timely new topics include: tissue extraction, controversies and removal of Essure, and RFA for fibroids, cosmetogynecology and female sexuality," stated the AAGL's Scientific Program Chair, Kevin J. E. Stepp, M.D., Chief, Urogynecology and Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery Program Director, Fellowship in FPMRS Carolinas Healthcare System Clinical Associate Professor, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

A highlight of the meeting will be the Jordan M. Phillips Keynote Speaker during the Opening Ceremony. Physician-astronaut and five-time NASA space shuttle flier, Dr. Scott Parazynski will be delivering his address on Innovation in the Extreme. As an astronaut, Dr. Parazynski was instrumental in developing a mentorship program within the astronaut corps that increased the ratio of spacewalk-qualified astronauts from 25% to more than 80%. Providing some much-anticipated entertainment value will be "Operating with the Stars," a creative spin on the popular ABC-TV series Dancing with the Stars. Three expert "star" surgeons will be paired with three attendees and each team will perform live cadaveric surgery on stage using their preferred route (laparoscopic, robotic, or vaginal). Special judges and audience response will provide entertaining commentary and team points.

AAGL's Global Congress embodies their global commitment to women's health care by providing continuing medical education to physicians and professionals to further promote the well-documented high standards of minimally invasive gynecologic surgery.
