"We realize this is a bold move," says Howard P. Meitiner, Phoenix House President and CEO, "to make the change at this time and in this economy. Our old look reminded people of how long and how well Phoenix House has been a leader in the behavioral healthcare field. But we knew we needed to recreate our look and feel to reflect our treatment innovations over the past few years - and to communicate our optimistic message that recovery is possible."

The new Phoenix House logo and tagline marks the organization's first major branding renewal since its inception in 1967. Revitalization includes restating the institutional mission in today's terms, embracing the spirit of the organization's 43-year commitment to leading individuals, families, and communities affected by addiction from disrupted to productive lives.

The organization's freshly imagined look reflects how aggressively it has responded to recent discoveries of brain science and advances in clinical practices that brought the field a wealth of proven treatment strategies. The revitalized brand identity and redesigned website introduced today express the organization's ongoing dedication to increasing public understanding of addiction, while emphasizing the inherent optimism of treatment.

The cornerstone of the visual renewal is the bright and colorful "Wings of Hope" logo, symbolizing the ascendant wings of the mythical phoenix, accompanied by the tagline "Rising Above Addiction."

"We at Phoenix House provide the tools and information people need to accept, treat, and manage the chronic disease of addiction," Mr. Meitiner says, "but it is hope that drives them along the way. Hope gives them the strength and courage to take the steps they must to achieve and sustain recovery." He explains, "It is essential that our brand identity communicates this sense of hope - and, from the initial responses we've received, the new Phoenix House logo and tagline are right on the mark."

According to John Bell, a former client in recovery, "The 'Wings of Hope' represent what is sometimes lost in the seriousness of the recovery process. That's the belief that the future can be bright, that recovery should be fun, and that there should be no limits to our hopes and dreams."

As part of the brand revitalization effort, the Phoenix House website (www.phoenixhouse.org) has been redesigned to reach out broadly to the public and to better inform and engage the entire Phoenix House community - program participants, family members, alumni, and others in recovery, as well as partners in government and the behavioral healthcare field.

"Our online platform is vital to our work," says Karen Sodomick, Vice President of Marketing and Communications for Phoenix House. "It is an invaluable 24-7 resource destination for those seeking honest, straight-forward, and reliable information on drug addiction treatment, prevention, and recovery."

The Phoenix House brand identity was designed pro bono by Siegel+Gale, a leading global strategic brand consultancy. Blueprint Design Studio, a Chicago-based website design and development firm, generously donated their time to create the new Phoenix House website.
