Why: Dr. Moulavi identifies three factors contributing to the obesitytrend. They are:

-- Lack of portion control: A study conducted by the American Journal ofPublic Health confirms that a warped perspective of a reasonable amount offood and sights fast food's current portions as being 2 to 5 times larger thantheir originally served size. In less than a decade, what were consideredMcDonald's "Supersize" french fries are now a size "Large"(2). On today'sEarly Show, learning portion control through different diets was discussing, including Dr. Moulavi's own Smart For Life.

-- Caloric Punch: A caloric punch refers to a person's and food industry'stendency to pile on the calories to what alone would be a reasonable food. Forinstance, a medium size potato is around 150 calories; topped with sour cream, salt, bacon and cheese, this becomes a health hazard. At times, thesecalories are hidden.

-- Food Addiction: People's addiction to food is comparable to drug, alcohol and smoking addictions and should be treated as such. Overweightindividuals experience changes in their bodies regarding insulin, sugar andthe different hormones, giving them an insatiable appetite.
