Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) - commonly known as “Staph,” is an infection- causing strain of Staphylococcus bacteria that is resistant to a range of antibiotics, particularly Methicillin. The trend towards drug resistance to antibiotics such as Penicillin was first noticed in 1950’s. Subsequently it was noticed that the bug Staph also developed drug resistance to other penicillin like antibiotics called erythromycin, streptomycin, and tetracycline.
