Classification

Many different classifications exist.

A rough and simple clinical classification is as follows:

Tuberculoid (TT) - Three or less lesions _ well defined border _ asymmetrical distribution.


Borderline Tuberculoid (BT)-More than three and less than 10 lesions will defined border _ asymmetrical distribution (or) less than three if border is defined in certain areas or if satellite lesions are present.

Mid borderline (BB)- More than ten _ roughly bilateral and symmetrical with well defined borders.

Borderline lepromatous (BL) - Numerous lesions _ bilateral and symmetrical _ well defined and ill defined borders.

Lepromatous (LL) - Numerous lesions _ bilateral and symmetrical _ vague and ill defined _ diffuse infiltration of the skin _ presence of nodules.
