Rabies

Vaccines prepared from animal cerebral tissue have poor immunogenecity and more side effects whereas vaccines of human origin are expensive.


Pre exposure prophylactic vaccination is advised for animal handlers with 2 or 3 doses and post exposure treatment with 5 or 6 doses spaced over a period of 3 months is recommended for persons bitten by a rabid animal.
