How to Take Secobarbital and it's Dose


It comes as a capsule to take by mouth, with or without food.

Dosage & When it is to be taken

Adults - The recommended dose is:
As a hypnotic- 100 mg at bedtime.
Preoperatively- 200 to 300 mg 1 to 2 hours before surgery.
Pediatric Patients - Preoperatively- 2 to 6 mg/kg, with a maximum dosage of 100 mg.

When it is not to be taken (Contraindications)

Contraindicated in patients with porphyria, liver impairment, respiratory and hypersensitivity.

This medication is a barbiturate, prescribed for insomnia (difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep).
